About

General Website Information

You have found your way to the website of John F Croston III, a web developer and accessibility advocate from the Washington, DC area. My new job is the "Web Accessibility Specialist" for the United States Department of Labor - dol.gov.

I can be reached the following ways:

I have not had time to put any real content in this website as of yet. I just added vCard Microformats to the home page and the About Us page. Work has been really busy, and I have to get my presentation ready.

If you go to my blog, what you will see is a few dozen posts on accessibility, food, travel, and life in general.

Currently this website is plain pages with nothing fancy, all created with only CSS. Sometimes as in never going to happen I plan on making a few styles sheets based on photos of mine that will be part of the header.

Below is a list of items that will be contained on this website. Most of them will be empty for a bit, until I find time to work on them.

  • About
  • Accessibility items you might find useful
  • Blog
  • Book recommendations
  • Links to references I have found valuable and useful
  • Portfolio Work (things I've built/coded)
  • Lessons I've Learned
  • Tools/Applications I've built or in the process of building
  • Presentations

I enjoy web development a great deal. To accomplish my daily job, I use some of the following languages, processes, and skills.

  • XHTML
  • CSS
  • Web Standards
  • Microformats
  • Accessibility
  • PHP
  • Tables only if I have to for tabular data
  • Validators for HTML, CSS, Section 508, WCAG 2.0, etc.

In my spare time I enjoy cooking, great wine, running meet-ups and Accessibility Camp DC, along with Accessibility DC, photography, hiking, and a lot more. Most of the books read now a days are mostly technical an related to the web, XHTML, CSS, Microformats, web standards, and accessibility.

Please stop back and see what changes have been made. I plan on using the blog to post what I have changed here, on the blog and any other web related items I might have or find.
